I purchased this book based on the positive reviews. I should have paid better attention to the negative reviews, that I agree with completely.I find this book to be an absolutely infuriating waste of time, money and paper. It's very poorly written in a very odd style, with no practical advice or useable treatment protocols. The word "profound" was used and mis-used ad-nauseum throughout the text, i.e. "Examples of Profound Biofilm Diversity..."He continually promotes all his other books throughout the text, often in bold text. Odd analogies are used: for example, on page 37, with no useful information to this point, he writes: "After writing twelve books which include many pages on non-Borrelia infections, "Lyme testing" seems like alphabet testing in which one only looks for the vowel "a". Due to the lack of acceptance of the number and complexity of tick-borne infections, there is a lack of up to date education, leaving quality medical doctors to evaluate tick and flea infections in the abstract, by which I mean that they very falsely and sadly do not realize the full magnitude of "the alphabet". Specifically, they "diagnose" by ignoring inflammation alterations, nutrient changes, hormone deficits, immunity changes caused by tick-borne infections, and chemicals made or suppressed by direct tick and flea infectious agents. I discuss these in my three most recent tick and flea infection books. All are available in English. All can be found free through inter-library loan, for less than $20 USD, or at www..... under the "free books" button..."Another odd analogy: "Searching for tick infections with one test is like writing in "Lincoln" at the next presidential election."So far, the best books I've read on Lyme and Co-infections have been by Stephen Harrod Buhner, Bryan Rosner, Connie Strasheim, and others... I just received Dr. Richard Horowitz's book, "Why Can't I Get Better, Solving the Mystery of Lyme and Chronic Disease", and it looks like it's a very well-written, fascinating, information-dense book.There are some great YouTube videos by Stephen Harrod Buhner, and a 3-part YouTube series by Pathologist Dr. Alan MacDonald on "The Biology of Lyme Disease" that is fantastic!With all due respect to Dr. Schaller, I do not believe for a moment that he is the only resource on biofilms. Biofilms have been known about, and studied extensively, for decades. There is good information online, as well as assistance finding herbs, enzymes and essential oils that can penetrate biofilms, by the authors listed above.I hope this review is helpful for you. I hope I've saved you money that you would have spent on this barely-useful, over-priced book; money that you can now use for books written by the great authors mentioned above, or for some herbal / essential oil remedies.

I ordered this book (paper version) becasue I was interested in a more in-depth look to biofilm I might have because of Borrelia Burgdoferi infection. Since at the moment I am self treating, this type of information is of vital importance. I was also interested in this subject just from a pure educational point simply becasue "Lyme Disease" can lead to many other immune system troubles.Pros:1. short to the point with not too lenghty chapters, excellent for those with short attention span. Dr. Schaller explains in very simple terms how biofilms is formed, breeds, propagate and becomes eventually a main health problem. The author conversational writing style makes it a fast read in few hours. It took me four hours to read it, but understand that you will need to go back several times to absorbe all the informations.2. This is one of the few books I read of this subject that includes images. It is a tremendous aid to those of us not looking at microscope slides on the daily basis. This alone deserves 5 stars. Dr. Schuller wants readers to understand and not to be confused by lenghty explanations. A picture is worth a thousand words.3. Brainstorming type of layout, which has been mistakenly viewed by previous readers as "disorganized". This is great for those who like to see the big picture first and then go in details right away. I am a multi-tasking individual who needs to make connections with the objective and the related sub-ojective immediately. I detest rote and 1,2, 3 sequence reading, thus for my brain the book has the optimal reading flow.4. A fairly in-depth look at diseases that create bio-film as well as type of bio-film busters listed individually.5. A unique and scientific reading on essential oils chemical components. It made me feel better about this MD, because at this point I have lost respect for most of them. Dr. Schaller shows to be a progressive physician, at least in his book.6. A detailed a chapter on periodontal disease and its causes. This chapter alone boosted my mood and made me feel better about being so OCD about my dental care. That aside, it instantly gives you a connection about why so many geriatric disease are related to poor dental health a connection completely missed by most physician.7. The book gave me a faint hope about being able to treat BB a little more efficiently.8. It is a short and condensed guide for patients also printed in large friendly font size.9. Dr. Schuller has plenty of referce studies at the end of each section --for those of us who like to read the original source-- This is great becasue so many other books are written like disertation papers that just offer a summary of studies exerpts pieced together.10. It offers a direct explanation of possible biofilm busting dangers to Lyme Disease patients.--Consvery few in my opinion, I understand that the dosage of the intake of the biofilm busters is not provided becasue it differs from patient to patient. Fair enough for me, we are all different and I completely beilive each patient dosage must be taylored to suit.--On SilverI wish Dr. Schaller would have mentioned the difference in the collodial silver (10 pm vs 50 ppm) application. As I am using this in conjunction with the Buhner protocol on a trial and error basis. I am assuming it would have been few chapters.

Although a number of substances were reviewed, with extensive bibliography , there is no treatment recommendations to be of much use. Maybe if your biofilm educated treatment specialist were to read this they could put the information to good use.

Up to date and a great format. This isn't a hard to read "pocket" manual, but a trade paperback size. Much better than similar products.

Good Important book but unfortunately the print is smaller than the previous version we had in (2010) also in the previous version was that the binding was made of wire/spiral coil.Book material is not made well, meaning the binding bottom is ripped & the cover has smugges due to the fact of inferior made paper; where it should have been laminated.

Have it because I need it, not necessarily because I wanted it. That said, it's a good review of the topic.

I bought this book as a reference for writing an ITAR procedure for my company. The material is as I expected - dry - but reliably useful to have on hand.

Actually, I hate ITAR!While you and I can't do squat, the President and Secretary of State can sell guns and worse to anyone they please, like Libyan "rebels" in 2010 and Syrian "rebels" in 2012.The book, however, is very informative and scares the hell out of anyone with friends that live outside the country or with friends who aren't citizens. Yup, you can go to jail for 10 years or more if you sell a gun to a foreign national without getting approval from Secretary of State.Oh, and if you teach someone to shoot who isn't a US citizen, you can go to jail for that, too.

It is clear the authors have both real experience and expertise. However, given that, the book is less than perfect. For example, the discussion on recognizing types in chapter 2 completely omits a fourth typology (involving domestic relationship issues which become workplace issues). A surprising and material omission.Overall, a good read with some valuable insights.

Diana Gabaladon has written a book that touches the heart and mind. I could not put the book down and for the first time in many years I cared about the characters I felt as if there were intimate friends and I could not wait to know what would happen next. Bravo Ms. Gabaldon!

Several people in my life have recommended the Outlander series to me for years, so despite my not ever feeling a strong pull toward the premise, I finally caved and tried to give it a shot, with the first book. Long story short: I quit at 49%. I'm not really sure what I was expecting of this book except to find it to be a very good read, according to so very many. I was definitely *not* expecting a glorified bodice ripper. I mean, I knew there was going to be "romance" due to the main thrust of the plot being how Claire navigates two great loves in two different times, but I thought there was going to be more to it. (And maybe there is, later on? But I doubt it.) Took me awhile to admit that the "story" is really just various pretexts for putting Claire and her Scottish husband Jamie into a variety of steamy sex scenes.Now, don't get me wrong: I like a good steamy romance novel, now and again. It's just that I was expecting more substance from this particular series. I love sci-fi, and time travel qualifies, but turns out that's just a cute backdrop for the romance, at least in the first half of the first book. No way am I remotely inclined to slog through 8 books to see if it breaks free of the Harlequin vibe!The writing is not bad, so I'm giving it three stars. I'm not quite as outraged by the what others are calling misogyny and domestic abuse; I believe Jaime loves Claire and is trying to be a proper, loving husband, but the corrective spanking/beating he doles out is infantilizing, at best. Claire is a fighter and puts some hurt back on him, but the whole situation is designed to do what I mentioned at the beginning: to set up a steamy sex scene. In this case, a sex scene with strong B&D overtones that I don't find appealing at all.So yeah, that was about halfway through and is the point at which I remembered that life is too short to waste good reading time on anything I'm not thoroughly into. Especially with the prospect of seven more books to go. Ugh. No. Time to find something else.

Just wow! When I first started to read this book, I hadn’t seen the TV series yet and I decided not to read the blurb. I just jumped right into the book to discover what it was about. I’ve seen countless references to Outlander on the pages that I follow on instagram and Facebook and just had to find out more.After WWII, former war nurse Claire and her husband, Frank go to Scotland on their 2nd honeymoon. In Scotland, Frank is learning about his genealogy and traced one of his ancestors as Captain Jack Randall of the English Red Dragoons, from the 18th Century. As they continue their trip, they decide to visit the Stonehenge and witness a beautiful pagan ritual. Claire goes back to the same location to take a look at flowers she found in the vicinity, but when something about these standing stones captures her attention, she touches it and ends up getting transported into the 18th Century. Once she arrives, she meets her husbands ancestor and he’s nothing like the man she knows her husband to be. After being rescued from his clutches by a Scottish clan, she is held as a guest of the Clan Mackenzie, where they try to discover what this “Sassenach’s” purpose truly is. Claire desperately tries to keep suspicions off of her back until she can devise a plan to get back to the Stonehenge, back to Frank and more importantly back to the 20th Century. Throughout her journey, she uses her nursing background and botany knowledge to heal and help the people of the clan. Enter, Jamie Fraser, the nephew to the laird of Clan Mackenzie, he is currently an outlaw and has been seeking refuge from the English. Claire and James share many adventures together and there is a clear attraction. Claire is conflicted because she does not belong to this time period no matter how she seems to be acclimating; is there anyone that she can trust to believe that she is a time traveler from the future? Will she ever make it back to the 20th Century?I decided to read each book and then the respective season of the tv show. I feel like I’ve entered the 18th Century right along with Claire and I absolutely love it!“As though, knowing that everything is possible, suddenly nothing is necessary.” Diana Gabaldon takes you on an adventure with each turn of the page; it’s beautiful, heart-breaking, you’re able to connect with the characters and you feel their pain.I’ll admit the writing was a bit difficult to get adjusted to and I used the dictionary more times than I care to admit, but once I got the hang of it, I just couldn’t put it down this 600+ page book! A few hundred pages in, I finally got into the story, only to quickly find that I could not finish reading the book. The scene where Jamie beats Claire within an inch of her life could have been used as a turning point for the characters, but instead was a quick moment that was quickly forgotten/forgiven by Claire. Practically just after he has forcibly held her down and whipped her, she is having sex with him. She also finds this to be the perfect time to tell him she loves him? I would not recommend that anyone read this book as it portrays the wrong impression to females. This book promotes domestic violence and abusive mentality. To let Claire believe she deserved the physical punishment (regardless of the time period) sends the wrong message to young girls or women suffering from abuse. The author clearly did not think about the views her writing would portray in relation to social issues. If I could give this 0 stars I would.

Hated this book. I saw a few episodes of the TV series and it seemed OK, so I thought I would try the book series. I won't be reading any more of her books. She seems to have a creepy obsession with rape and sexual violence. There are WAY too many sex scenes, so many that it got tiresome. These scenes are very graphic, as are the descriptions of rape.***SPOILERS****I had to draw the line, though, at the "hero" beating the heroine because she "deserves it", then telling her after that he enjoyed beating her, and she is basically ok with that and falls in love with him. No, this not OK, nor is it at all romantic. It's sick. I was disgusted and disappointed by this book. It also seems homophobic because the only gay characters are creepy rapists. This book belongs in the trash.
