I first read this book and began my journey with Arthur when it first came out and eagerly awaited the next installment with bated breath. And now, after all these years, I have returned to this series and it is still as captivating as when I first read it. If you're looking for a story that has an interesting plot and characters while being a fun and entertaining read, then I highly recommend picking up not only this book but the entire series.

Though not a fan of fantasy, I do read it occasionally to keep up on what my students are reading. The richly imagined descriptions in this series made it one that I enjoyed reading. An asthmatic seventh grade boy, Arthur Penhaligan, is the hero for this seven book fantasy. Handicapped and with the odds always against him, he does not give up trying to do what's right. A rich stew of surreal Alice in Wonderland-type imagery and characters, elements reminiscent of myths, an alternate universe, endless hair's breadth escapes, grisly horror, and mystery, Keys to the Kingdom never lags. However, this series is not just a vividly imagined movie in print for a happy reader to follow. Keys to the Kingdom is a thinking kid's fantasy. If one pays close enough attention, answers to the great questions of the origins of our world and our human natures might come close to being answered.Well-liked by both boys and girls in my middle school classes, this series is favored by boys; and though written at a seventh grade reading level, is also well-liked by high school boys into about tenth grade. The interest level is rated at grade five through eight. Both the complexity of the plot and the at times nightmare-like imagery may keep this from being a book for fifth grade and under, unless a child in these years is looking to be challenged and a little frightened.The series starts with Mister Monday and moves through each day of the week: Grim Tuesday, Drowned Wednesday, Sir Thursday, Lady Friday, Superior Saturday, and the eagerly awaited and yet un-named Sunday episode.Gaby Chapman

There's certainly one thing to be said about everything Nix writes, and that is that it's rife with original creativity and completely new fantasy stories. However, sometimes the books themselves, although phenomenally imaginative, are hit or miss depending on how much Nix is able to flesh out the story. The Seventh Tower series, for instance, is deftly imagined, a two worlds drawn together through light and shadow, and the ability to use colored gemstones to create light beams that can do all sorts of interesting things. Unfortunately for whatever reason, Nix doesn't explore the world and the story enough. It's much more like eating watery soup than it is like consuming a good meal.The Abhorsen Trilogy, on the other hand, is a great work, and although it's not a classic literature sort of story, the world itself is fleshed out well, so that the reader can really imagine the world and lose themselves in it. I feel like the Keys to the Kingdom series is a mixture of both, and I'd love to see the world more fully explored. The first book, especially, seems to move toward that path, but as the books progress, they seem to become more and more formulaic and lacking in substance. Ultimately, Nix's imagination seems to know no bounds, but if he would slow down and put more life into these books, I think they would be much better. Not to say that the books aren't fun to read, but I believe they could be fun to read and rich. Hopefully his next fantasy series will be more like The Abhorsen Trilogy.-Lindsey Miller, [...]

But when he finds himself in the woods on the edge of suffocating to death, two Victorian-style men appear and once is tricked into giving the boy a magical key.This key not only saves him from death but entangles him in a conspiracy between supernatural forces going back tens of thousands of years.It starts slow. And Arthur spends too long with nothing explained, being pushed around by strange forces. But about halfway through the world begins to make sense. And at long last he moves from reactor to having a goal and some power to take steps forward. The last half of the book was good and I'm hoping the second in the series starts with the energy and clarity that we ended with.

Mister Monday is an interesting Fantasy novel that draws readers in from the very beginning. The main character, Arthur is flawed and that is what makes him the "chosen" one for the Keys to the Kingdom. In this series starter, Arthur learns what power he has as he tries to determine how to live his life with this key that he has obtained and this house and little, scary fantasy creatures that no one else can see but him.Arthur starts to think he is losing it, but a few friends from his P.E. class see the creatures too, so Arthur apprehensively goes on his journey as the reluctant hero who is bound to find a way to save his community and family.This book along with Grim Tuesday will hook readers on this series. I can't wait for the rest of the books in this series.Harry Potter lovers can definitely find a new love in this series.

The writing is good, the characters are good, but it is written to stretch out through seven books, so key plot issues never get fully resolved when you expect that they should. The story line thus drags out in way that reminded me of the Series of Unfortunate Events. I am not going to bother to read the other six books because it feels like it will be unsatisfying if each books ends with "Oh, by the way, there is still another issue that has to be resolved before the hero can rest, so you have to read the next book."

Then I discovered your books. I feel like Columbus… finally a new retreat, a breath of fresh air, a new friend. Your books have a wonderful writing style, not layered with useless facts & fiction that add pages to the novel but nothing to the story line. I adore your humor and the interplay of the characters. Thank You for sharing your wonderful talent.

The book was supposed to be published by The Folio Society and it was instead an inexpensive printing that was part of a series. Very disappointed and it has made me lose confidence in the accuracy of the descriptions on Amazon.

While I was familiar with the story, having seen the film and listened to audio dramas based on this book, I had not read the actual book until now. BY Wells' classic tale of an evil man who discovered the secret of invisibility, his reign of terror and retribution are still a great story. I read this book using immersion reading while listening to the audiobook. The great Scott Brick masterfully narrated this tale in a beautiful British accent. The book has added scenes of filler, which are normally left out of the adaptations. I would love to see a modern production, faithful to the book. Once it gets going after a bit of slowness in the beginning, it is fast paced and exciting. The Invisible Man is often his own worst enemy, due to his temper, vanity and greed. Glad to check this classic off my list.

I love H.G. Wells! He was so ahead of his time with his science fiction.I decided to read this book because I recently read The Madman's Daughter trilogy, the first of which is a retelling of this book (which I highly recommend by the way!). It was very interesting to see what that author took from the original.This book was both thought provoking and absolutely creepy. It's a pretty short and easy read and totally worth it!The book itself is also beautiful and looks great on my bookshelf

This is NOT the book in the image nor is it Folio Society. While the image is a folio society book it’s not the Invisible Man. The book I received was of a quality (for lack of a better word) I’d expect to find in the youth section of an underfunded public library. I have since bought the Folio Society edition of The Invisible Man from ebay

This story was a bit shallow for a classic piece of literature. It was dark all the way through. The Invisible Man was an evil character with no redeeming characteristics. Unlike the monster in Frankenstein who originally had the human desire for companionship and acceptance, this character had sinister motives and nothing else. The only part of this book that I found interesting was the discussion and explanation of how invisibility was achieved. Other than that, I was happy to finish the book so I could read something else.

I knew the story already, having seen a movie version of it when I was a child. I didn't remember that the invisible man had character flaws which led him to hurt others and to think only of himself. I kept thinking as I read how strange it would be to actually meet an invisible person. Very unique and entertaining story.

The story itself earns a 5-star. BUT...this version on Kindle is practically unreadable, as the formatting is messed up. Paragraphs frequently broken into chunks, frequently a single word to a line regardless of the font or size font used. There are several other $.99 versions of this classlc available on Kindle, all of which seemed to have avoided this formatting pitfall. Buy one of those instead.

The message of this book still rings true today. In a world with ever-changing technology and scientific advances, we must still be careful of the impact of those changes and advances. Their effects can be far-reaching and sometimes can be irreversible.As to the writing in this book, the author creates a vivid picture in the mind of the reader of each character and their actions, building the tension with each page. In the days before technology brought us the "moving pictures" of the movies, this author was taking his readers for a suspenseful, action packed ride with only their imagination to paint the pictures in their minds. It is rich in the details of each person, each room, each scene that is before you. I pictured them all in my mind - making my own "movie of the mind". I have seen several movies that were based on this book in the past, but had never read the original book by H. G. Wells. The reading of this book made the best "movie" of all.

I recently moved to Japan and started out not knowing any Japanese phrases. I found this book and was delighted to see the phrases broken down phonetically as well as with pictures to help you remember. My Japanese vocabulary has significantly increased. My mom visited and used this book to help her break down the words as well. Seeing "sumimasen" phonetically really helped her understand the proper pronunciation. This and many other phrases have helped us transition into life in Japan.

When I visited Japan a friend in Okinawa showed me her copy of Japanese Slanguage. I read through it and immediately bought four copies for myself and friends in my Japanese language class. We all love this book for helping us learn Japanese phrases in a fun and easy way. My favorite phrase is "Don't touch my moustache" for "You're welcome." Try this book, the pronunciations aren't always perfect but they help you to get there and to remember the Japanese you need to know.

Wished there were more phrases because the concept is fantastic.

It was fun and funny but I wish they had more about food. If you think about what you'll be talking about saying while traveling there should be a larger food and "where is..." section to make this actually useful. As it is, it's just a novelty. Kind of dissapointing bc I really liked the concept.

Fun and helpful guide to Japanese slang/commonly used terms and words. However, the actual speed, inflections, and nuances of actually speaking fluent Japanese, cannot be attained with this book alone.Overall, it is a good refresher or introduction guide, and worth the money and time to study.

We got this for some friends who are moving to Japan,they have a little girl so we thought this book would be neat for them all to learn the basics to get around in Japan. The way they have the pictures to help you say the words is not only helpful but very fun. Our friends got a kid out of it and really enjoyed it. Would recommend to anyone who wants to learn basic Japanese.

Awesome book for beginners. The pictures definitely help for pronunciation. I will definitely be bringing this with us to Japan. I even bought my parents the spanish version!

About the Author

R. A. MONTGOMERY attended Hopkins Grammar School, Williston-Northampton School and Williams College where he graduated in 1958. He pursued graduate studies in Religion and Economics at Yale and NYU. Montgomery was an adventurer all his life, climbing mountains in the Himalaya, skiing throughout Europe and scuba-diving wherever he could. His interested included education, macro-economics, geo-politics, mythology, history, mystery novels and music. He wrote his first interactive book, Journey Under the Sea, in 1976 and published it under the series name The Adventures of You. A few years later Bantam Books bought this book and gave Montgomery a contract for five more, to inaugurate their new children s publishing division. Bantam renamed the series Choose Your Own Adventure and a publishing phenomenon was born. The series has sold more than 260 million copies in over 40 languages. He was married to the writer Shannon Gilligan. Montgomery died in November 2014, only two months after his last book was published.

This is an updated version of a book that was originally written in the 1990's. It is also a sequel to a previous book, Journey Under The Sea. I have loved the CYOA series since I started reading it when I was younger, and, while I wish they would reprint several of the other books that I enjoyed as well, this one is a good choice to revise. Overall, its a good read with some interesting twists and turns.

I have to say, the repints are nice, but I miss the old artwork - I liked it. Also, this story is one of the weak ones. I am not sure half the time what is going on and, while I had a few interesting endings, I did not solve the problem which is nobody believes my character got to Atlantis.I kind of wish I had more background of the main character's FIRST adventure. Oh well.

Not as good as the first installment (Journey Under the Sea), but still a fun read.

I have the hardest time finding books that keep my son's interest, and that aren't baby books. He is 7, and these CYOA books fit the bill. Rereading the first few pages every time gets old, but he accommodates by skipping to the initial question to get things rolling.

Grandson could hardly wait to finish! Then sad when he did because there wasn't more! Great book!

I enjoyed this series many years ago, when I was young. We just borrowed this from the library, and so glad we didn't buy it. This book has a possibility of 18 endings. You'd think with that many endings, at least 1 has got to be a good ending, but no, that isn't the case here. With at least 3 you end up dead & the other endings make you go "huh?". You aren't able to fulfill the quest you've been sent on, which was to vindicate yourself of nobody believing you found Atlantis.

I read this to my children during a long drive. You could see them imagining the magical details of the story. Then letting them choose the own adventure brought out an excited explorer in each one of them. It was the best and quietest drive ever and I shared with them an experience from books I read as a young boy.

I love the choose your own adventure books. My favourite book is Journey to Atlantis by R.A.Montgomery. And to makeAnother one... let the journey begin!

Its a very good book one that should be read by all people who are thinking to jump into the stock markets. The author has done a terrific job of putting his thoughts and own experiences in a nice simple manner. I do not know if the methods are fool proof but I'll definitely try them and see the results. In fact it has given me a few more ways in which i can check before i invest in a stock. It will surely complement with the other method that I follow while investing one which has given me similar returns to what the author keeps mentioning as the target. return rate.P.S.: I maybe nitpicking here, but the work could've been edited and proof read for some of the errors that I found. Nonetheless, it is a good book indeed.

I was looking for some basics of stock market investment for myself, a person who has no idea about how financial world works. This book fulfils that requirement. There's not too much technical jargon, language is lucid and a sincere attempt is made to explain complex things in simple language with focus on how to be a safe yet productive investor. Recommended for people who are not from financial world but still would like to get in stock market.

Thanks Prasenjit for writing such an excellent book. Frankly this is my first book reading on equity investments and will be the last book too. It is very crispy to the point and everything that the retail investors should know about stock before investing. I also liked all those practical examples. Even after recent market crash, I did not loose the confidence now. Keep up the good work and I am confident that our hard earn money can be invested on right stocks by following the key parameters mentioned in the book.

Its a must read book for all novice investors. The book is written in simple layman language not like other so many complicated books in the market about investment. It is completely filled with real life examples on how to avoid common mistakes made by investors, clearly articulates various aspects of stock investing like, common mistakes, how to pick stocks, when to buy , when to sell and how to deal with market crashes...

This book is very good because it will guide you about investing and selecting of quality stock as with warn about intraday, short term & future and option trading. I like the content of this book, so have rated *****

Every chapter is adopted to my scenario with plain English, all bad examples are 100% suites to me. I would have at least stop losing my hard earning money if this was written couple of years back.
