I got my kids two strategy guides when Pokemon Gold & Silver came out, this one and the "official" Nintendo one. Of the two, this one has gotten MUCH more use. My daughters have marked lots of areas with PostIt flags, the pages are dog-eared, the back is getting ripped, you know they use it!I realize the previous reviewers noted some minor problems with this guide, but all in all they're just that, minor. No, this guide does not have a built-in Pokedex, they published it before they had the info put together for the Pokedex, and I'm fine with that (see my review of the new Pokedex here on Amazon, it's well worth having too!). And yes, there are some typos, but that's not a big deal.There is a lot to love about this guide. It has comparison charts for the various types of Pokemon, so you know which type to use when battling. There are pages and pages on everything from TMs to HMs, Berries to Apricorns, the various Pokeball types to the new Mystery Gift items. There's an in-depth section on breeding Pokemon, as well as the newest ways to evolve them (stones versus the happiness factor). There's a great quick and dirty path through the game, which you can check to make sure you didn't miss anything. And best of all, there's a special "sealed" section in the back with spoiler info which you can open or not, depending on whether you're an adult (yes, I know you grownups out there play this game!) or a 6 year-old who needs help through the Tin Tower.All in all this guide is well worth the money, and if you've got more than one kid playing these games, I'd advise you to get two, to spare yourselves the fighting over it. Don't hesitate, buy it!

I like that it came to me a LOT quicker than the site said it would.It was nice and complete with very little wear to it.I'm only disappointed with the publisher, prima, for not putting in a listing of ALL of the pokémon with level growth and what TMs and HMs that they could use. Of course, this part has nothing to do with the seller.

Was a bit let down that it didn't have the maps and index like Pokemon blue and red had. It's a good guide if you want to know the basics like what Pokemon the gym leaders use.

The book was a little raggedy from being old but the secrets were still sealed and nothing ripped so it was a great deal instead of having some terribly torn hand-me-down.

The price was right for the condition of book. Description was very accurate. I purchased the mate to this book a couple weeks later and the condition was not near as good.

I have mixed feelings about this Strategy Guide, which I bought as a companion book to Pokemon Gold on the Game Boy. Generally, I think it`s well written and easy to understand, with superb maps which clearly tell you where items are and how to get around in the different cities (which I found really useful, as I`m not very good at navigation in RPGs). It also tells you about the different Gym Leaders and the Elite Four, and what the best Pokemon to use against them are. There is a section on how to breed Pokemon too, plus charts telling you what Pokemon are found in certain areas during the morning, daytime and nighttime and the stages of evolution for a few new Pokemon.Unfortunately, this book doesn`t really go into detail about where different Pokemon can be found and how to complete your Pokedex. It seems this book was intended just as a walkthrough to help you complete the game quickly, which kind of spoils your fun. If you want help with filling up your Pokedex properly, you have to buy another Prima book, which is advertised in the back.Overall I`d recommend this book if you`re a novice at the Pokemon games, because the maps and walkthroughs are very good. But sadly, the lack of a proper Pokedex stops the book from being excellent.

I had been wanting and intending to read the His Fair Assassin series since the first book, GRAVE MERCY, released in 2012, but I hadn’t yet done so. I knew this book was in the His Fair Assassin universe, so I figured it was the perfect time to binge read the series…and I’m so glad I finally did! Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres and has been for as long as I’ve been reading, and these books were like a balm to my soul, filling a need I didn’t even realize I had within me. It’s been a while since I’ve read good medieval historical fiction, and the HFA series was like coming home after a long time away!While the original HFA books each featured one initiate of the convent of Saint Mortain, COURTING DARKNESS is told from two perspectives: those of Lady Sybella, from DARK TRIUMPH, and a new character, Genevieve. I really enjoy stories told from multiple points of view, and this book was no different. The sections alternating between the two characters are short and always leave you wanting more, compelling you to read “just a little bit further” to find out what happens next. The girls’ stories are independent from one another while at the same time slowly converging, and I felt myself growing more anxious as the pages flew past.While I love each of the original trio of assassins, Sybella was absolutely my favorite (although I will admit that Balthazaar was my favorite romantic interest!), and I was so happy to hear more from her. I had no idea when I read DARK TRIUMPH just how personal Sybella’s story was to Ms. LaFevers, but I do know that Sybella just felt so special to me. Reading the author’s note at the beginning of COURTING DARKNESS helped me see that she is also special to Ms. LaFevers, and that Sybella had much more of her own story to tell. It’s fun to meet yet another of the convent’s initiates, one who hadn’t been at the convent during the formative years of Ismae, Sybella, and Annith. Genevieve’s training (or lack thereof), and her relationship to Mortain, are so different from our original trio, and it was fascinating to know, as the reader, things about her gifts that she didn’t yet know. And of course, Ms. LaFevers has written yet another delicious romantic lead in Maraud! I still heart Balthazaar, but Maraud is definitely swoon-worthy :)Even though this book is about 500 pages, I flew through it (as I did with the first three) and was absolutely not ready for it to end. I am now lamenting having to wait a year for part two of this duology! I am so glad that Ms. LaFevers went back to the world of His Fair Assassin to bring us more of the convent of Saint Mortain, badass proto-feminist assassins, delectable love interests, and incredible female friendships. I cannot get enough of this series and will, without a doubt, read as many more books in the HFA world as Ms. LaFevers is willing and able to write. I hope she continues beyond the conclusion to this duology – but for now I am content to wait (not so) patiently for the next part of Genevieve and Sybella’s adventures. I wish I could give this 1000 stars, but since I cannot, I hope I have at least conveyed just how highly I recommend COURTING DARKNESS and the entire HFA series. Woot!!I was so excited to read this book because I loved the first books and Sybella and Beast!! Either it has not registered that I have just mortally wounded his two friends or he is stupid, so certain he has a killing blow that he moves slowly, like an executioner at a beheading. In the time it takes for his sword to arc toward me, I retrieve the stiletto from my left sleeve. Ducking in low, I launch my entire body at him, aiming for his gullet. The move brings me up against his chest, my blade sinking deeply into the hollow of his throat. For one crystalline moment, we are pressed together in an embrace, his sword flailing uselessly behind me. I twist the stiletto, shoving it in deeper. ********************** Beast His physical presence has all the sublety of a small mountain, and as he draws closer, the tattered remains of the lingering souls retreat. He slips his arm around my waist and pulls me close—the only man in the kingdom who could survive taking such a liberty with his throat intact.*End ExcerptI love them sooooo much!!This book is told in the POV’s of Sybella and Genevieve. Where I was more interested in Sybella’s parts, I was interested in what was going on with Genevieve and the mysterious prisoner.I did want to smack Genevieve at the end but that last page has me hoping for something awesome in the next book!! Courting Darkness is a spin off book from the His Fair Assassin series, it’s been mentioned that you do not need to read the trilogy before starting this, but I’m going to disagree and say that you should read the trilogy first. There are things going on that you may feel lost and confused about.The book is told in dual POV that goes back and forth between Sybella and Genevieve.Courting Darkness picks up where Mortal Heart left off and we are following Sybella and Beast. Sybella and her fellow Handmaidens of Death are trying to come to terms with a world that no longer has the presence of Mortain and the mark that guided them, now they need to make choices that they see as being difficult since their training did not prepare them for this.I was thrilled to see that Sybella and Beast were going to be back, they have an amazing dynamic bond.We are also introduced to Genevieve, who is an initiate of Mortain. She has been undercover for 5 years in the French court and is starting to feel that the convent has forgotten about her and her mission. I did not care much for Genevieve, she seems to go through the story with blinders on and just wants to do things her way, with no consideration for others and the consequences her choices could lead to.There is a lot of political intrigue that takes place in the book, which some may find boring and or confusing since there are several houses that are part of the book.This book is a slow burn since there is no real interaction between Sybella and Genevieve until the end, which seems to be a build up for the second book.I do plan on picking up the second book in the duology since I love Sybella and I want to see if Genevieve smartens up.

I love reading this version, particularly because the notes are all in the back. So I can just focus on the text or I can go further or explore a question in the back of the book.

This is beautiful. What can I say? There are few sources of spiritual teachings as eloguent and full of truth as that taught by the Buddha.The sayings are layed out in verse form. You could read one 4 line verse and meditate on it's meaning all day. They are profound thoughts, guaranteed to raise your spirit to a level much higher than the mundane.Regardless of what your opinion might be on who or what the Buddha was, the lessons he's given us are priceless. If the world really did behave the way we are taught to we would have heaven on Earth.Perhaps that was the lesson another fine religious leader was trying to give us...It is no coincidence that his teachings were also called "The Way."peace to you all..

A lovely, small volume of Buddhist thought. The translation and interpretation are clear & helpful. The small size makes it a great jacket pocket companion for time spent in contemplation in the park, at a coffee shop, or on the bus.

One of the best you can have for dhammapada translation. There is written why certain words are choosen for the particular translation.

Incredibly interesting text while studying eastern religions and/or conceptions.

Prior to reading this book, I knew little of Buddhism. Careful study of it helped me to deeply appreciate the religion and the wisdom it holds. I would highly recommend this book for anyone interested in Buddhism!

Glenn remains one of my favorite teachers. Very scholarly and at the same time heartfelt and insightful. Another book to keep as a key resource to be read and re-read.
