I am disappointed in this book and considering sending it back. What I didn't realize when looking at the preview is that there are not instructions for ALL of the pieces in this book. Some- including the one I specifically bought it for- are just "inspirations" that you are left to figure out on your own. Sorry, but I can find plenty of inspiration for free online, I paid for instructions and information about materials used.
I was very disappointed along with a few others before me that there were "inspiration" pages that no instructions. The piece I particularly wanted to make as a gift has turned into a nightmare trying to figure it out from a photo. I have taken it to jewelry shops and they can't figure it out either. I decided there is no point in contacting the author as she didn't even make the inspiration projects. Really frustrated. Wish I had read the reviews before I purchased the book but I was all caught up in the excitement.
Loved the ideas in this book, but the author seems confused about the difference between "wire" and "thread". Wildfire beading thread is NOT wire. It's thermally bonded polyethylene fibers. You can't cut the stuff with scissors, and the only successful way I've had of cutting it is with a threadburner. There are other times when she apparently referred to beading wire as thread. If your familiar with beading thread and wire, you can ignore the references to them and assume what she meant, then you'll like the jewelry ideas in the book.
I love this book! I just bought the Jewel Loom about 3 weeks ago and I have been having a blast with it. While this book does have some step by step instructions it's mostly a book to give you ideas of what you can do. I would say that this book is geared to those that have intermediate to advanced loom beading skills. There are some step by step instructions, but I would not say they are geared towards the beginner. There are many cute patterns and ideas. It really gets the creative juices flowing. The pictures are great as well. The price maybe a little steep, but there is a lot of work that went into making this book and I am not just talking about the layout of the book but the beaded projects and ideas as well. I will keep this book and I know I will refer back to it many times to help inspire me.
I had purchased the Jewel Loom but had never used a bead loom before so I found the book to be very helpful in explaining the bead weaving process and especially recommendations for what to use for warp threads versus weft. Also good ideas for finishing projects. There are a variety of projects that can advance you through the process and build on your skills. Though this book is based on the Jewel Loom a lot of it's advice, and the projects, could apply to bead looming in general.
Absolutely gorgeous photos! Juliana "Jewels" Avelar has outdone herself once again. The book is filled with beautiful projects: bracelets, rings, earrings, necklaces, clothing accessories, and more. The book is well laid-out. Each project begins with a detailed materials-needed list, followed by step-by-step written and photographed instructions. I can see that they will be easy to follow to complete any of these gorgeous pieces. This is a fabulous gift for anyone who enjoys beautiful things. Even better - it arrived more than 3 weeks early - just in time to be wrapped and put under the tree. Truly a gorgeous book!
No real new information, just the same basics you can get from free online sources like Pinterest. The patterns were very simple.
This is an outstanding book. There is a wealth of information about looming within the book as well as tons of inspiration and easy to follow project instructions. If you love beading then do yourself a favor and add this to your library. It's worth every penny.
