Kim Gosselin was born and raised in Michigan where she attended Central Michigan University. My youngest has a seizure disorder and I wanted a book to help explain his condition to my other 2 and this book delivers! It even helped me feel less scared too. I wish there were books about epilepsy :(
We bought this book for our 2 yr old & her cousins & future playmates. When we read it to her the first time, she was completely absorbed; more so than with any book we've read her to date, and she's already a bookworm. She wanted it read twice more. She calls it the "essilessy" book & knows its about another kid who has seizures. Even if she has no idea what the rest of the information in the book means, she knows that the girl in the story has seizures, too. This book very obviously means something to her, even at such a young age, so it is well worth whatever we paid for it. I would replace it again and again at any cost for the value it has to my daughter.I recommend it for use at home or with any group up through the elementary, maybe middle school, years that a child with epilepsy belongs to. Even just for use for parents to get an idea how to explain epilepsy and living with it to others using simple language and explanations. This children's book is an excellent addition to a family's epilepsy resource library.
Great book for any age to read. My son diagnosed with epilepsy at age 5. 2 months before starting kindergarten found this book and it was not only great for us to read at home but teachers loved it and now school has copy for them to keep in classroom. Perfect to help not only my son understand but his friends and caregivers as well!!!!
I had high hopes, and had hoped to send this book to my recently diagnosed daughter's first grade class. I started reading, and soon realized that wouldn't be happening. The idea of the book is fantastic, and it did have some good things. Fun imagery, simple phrasing easy for kids to understand, and an emphasis on how epilepsy doesn't make you weird. But they tried to cover the more "common" types of epilepsy, but weren't able to adequately cover any of them. If I were a child, unfamiliar with the disease, I know I would be more overwhelmed and scared than anything. If I were to mark the specific pages that relate to my daughter, with the idea that I don't want to overwhelm the kids, I think it would end up still being scary because of the lack of information.

I sent this book to school for my son that is 7 and his teacher read it to the class. then when my son had a seizure in class they were not scared. it really helped explain and answer questions in a way they could understand and feel comfortable.
Read book bought it for my daughter school so the kids could be informed about epilepsy and not be so scared about it
